Briarwood Secondary
Briarwood Secondary is a specialist provision, for children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Several Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism (ASD) and children with Complex Needs, covering Key Stage 3 and 4. We are an ever-growing department with Seven classes currently, co-located with our Nexus centre. Our pupils have access to a Sensory Integration room, Sensory Room, a D&T room, the Hydro pool, a sensory garden, a large sports court and a large outside play area with includes play and Gym equipment.
The majority of our pupils transition from Briarwood Juniors, but we welcome new visitors and applications through the Local Authority. At Briarwood Secondary we deliver a bespoke curriculum with individualised pathways. This builds opportunities for our pupils to gain accreditations in ASDAN, receive employee encounters and work experiences opportunities. Our aim is for pupils to gain the skills and independence to be confident in applying what they have learnt within the local community and in a world beyond Briarwood.
At Briarwood Secondary our aim is to be a happy, welcoming, nurturing environment where everyone feels valued and safe. The wellbeing of all our pupils underpins everything we do to ensure that our pupils can Enjoy Engage and Learn. We promote healthy lifestyles throughout everything we do and makes sure that all pupils have access to regular opportunities to enrichment to help keep them active. We work closely with Bristol Bears to deliver bespoke sports sessions with our pupils.
We work in partnership with professionals across a range of services to support our pupils and their families to help secure the support and services they need to ensure our pupils thrive and learn to their full potential. Briarwood will always promote strong working relationships with families and carers as this an integral part to their achievement.
